Originally from a small town in Maine, and self-taught in design, Joanna founded her hair accessories line by mistake amidst pursuing her dream of starting a designer bikini label.
While playing around with the extra material, she turned a few bikini strings into bracelets, and later realized they also made perfect hair ties.
Friends would ask to buy them right off her wrist and wanted them in a variety of colors, so Joanna converted her business into Kini Bands – hair ties and head bands made from swim material.
She developed a system for gathering retail leads and following up with them for wholesale orders, including salons, spas, gyms, boutiques, and resorts.
Her designer brand she runs on the side in San Diego is called Kinsman, faux fur accessories and custom swimwear.
With a passion for helping other visionaries bring their products to life and sell them in retail, Joanna is a consultant to fellow fashion and beauty entrepreneurs.
